A political drama starring a multiple Emmy Award-winning actor has been bought by Starz with an eight-episode order after a heated bidding war, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com

The pilot for "Boss," which stars TV series veteran Kelsey Grammer, will be directed by film director Gus Van Sant, who will also executive produce the series, which is produced by Lionsgate Television, the story notes.

Grammer will star as the mayor of Chicago who has a degenerative mental condition that’s only known about by himself and his doctor, and the project is described as "King Lear" set in Chicago’s political world, the article adds. The project is written by "Apocalypto" co-writer Farhad Safinia.
