Netflix Offers New Streaming Only Plan, Raises Prices on Other Plans

Nov 22, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Netflix announced today that it will offer a streaming only plan for $7.99 a month, CNNMoney reports.

According to the article, "The new plan, priced at $7.99 per month, allows customers to instantly watch unlimited TV episodes and movies streamed to a computer or TV. The option includes no DVD rentals, and will take effect immediately. Meanwhile, Netflix is raising prices by $1 a month on its two most popular plans — the one and two DVD at a time options, which will now be priced at $9.99 and $14.99 per month."

Prices for options that allow consumers to have more DVDs at one time are also going up.

Also, the article notes, as many customers have found out, "While Netflix continues to ramp up the number of titles available to stream, not every program is available, a tripping point for users who prefer the instant streaming service, but want access to the entire Netflix library.

Though the article didn’t say it, clearly part of the the Netflix move is in response to Google TV and Apple TV, to name two devices that can connect consumer TV screens to the internet.
