The Walt Disney Co. plans to test a premium video-on-demand service that will make movies available on television sets soon after they’ve been released in theaters, the New York Post reports.

The service would be targeted to families with young children. Disney President of Distribution Bob Chapek noted at an investor conference that such families are the biggest audience segment that’s interested in home premieres, the story notes.

Few details were provided about the service, but the story points out that theater owners are likely to protest the move on the belief that it could reduce attendance.
