A&E Pulls Plug on Drama Series

Aug 30, 2013  •  Post A Comment

A&E has canceled a drama series. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel made the decision not to go ahead with a fifth season of "The Glades."

The decision comes even though the show’s fourth-season finale hit season highs in viewership, the piece notes.

"I hear the network made the call this morning," Nellie Andreeva reports on the website. "Like its companion ‘Longmire,’ ‘Glades’ posted season highs in its finale earlier this week, averaging 3.4 million total viewers, 1.1 million adults 18-49 and 1.3 million adults 25-54. But year-to-year, ‘Glades’ was down double digits in key demos while ‘Longmire’ posted gains."

The cable channel will bring back "Longmire" for a third season, as we reported previously.

Andreeva adds: "’The Glades,’ from Fox TV Studios, was the first A&E scripted series to stick and helped establish the network’s scripted brand."

  1. What a shame. Loved that show. Wish they would change their minds.

  2. WTF… are they just going to leave us with Jim lying on the floor on his wedding day?
How abut a special to wrap up the loose ends A&E or are you turning into a copy of the dying broadcast networks?

  3. I ditto that comment… I can’t believe they are going to leave us with Jim being shot and no one around and not a clue who shot him or why. I was on the edge of the couch with that SURPRISE ending!

  4. How many shows would kill to get 3.4 million viewers? I can’t imagine what its replacement show numbers will be? Probably a reality show. There are more morons that will watch those than enjoy a well scripted and acted show that has a short season anyway. Maybe that’s the problem, the long breaks between seasons of cable shows makes people having a hard time figuring out when they start up again. Shows have been saved by the viewers in the past, maybe this one needs a 3.4 million person protest?

  5. I am so sad to see this show end ,I really like all the actors on this show. I cant believe they would leave us hanging this way. I wish netflix or some another cable channel would pick up this show. as for those not knowing when its on just buy a tivo and set up a season pass and you’ll never miss an episode as the tivo knows when the new season starts no matter what day or month of the year.
