NBC Wins Bidding War for Mermaid Comedy

After joining in a "multiple-network bidding war," NBC has bought a mermaid comedy from the executive producer and showrunner of "The Big C," Jenny Bicks, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

The comedy tracks a beached mermaid who ends up working in a Miami bar with a group of people who have also lost their way. NBC has given the project a put-pilot commitment, with Bicks on board to write and executive produce the project.

"I am thrilled to be working with NBC, and p.s., mermaids totally exist!" Bicks told the publication.

The commitment comes about two weeks after Bravo passed on Bicks’ effort to get a "Heathers" follow-up to television, the story adds. "The Big C" recently ended a four-season run on Showtime.
