A dark comedic drama starring Oscar nominee and Emmy winner Paul Giamatti is moving forward. Deadline.com reports that FX has given a pilot order to "Hoke," in which Giamatti plays homicide detective Hoke Moseley.
"Hoke" features Moseley, a hardboiled detective in the middle of a midlife crisis, working in Miami in 1985. The project is based on the Charles Willeford novels "Sideswipe," "New Hope for the Dead" and "The Way We Die Now," the story notes.
The project was written by the Oscar-nominated writer Scott Frank, who will direct the pilot and will be the showrunner if it gets a series order. Frank received an Oscar nomination for his adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s "Out of Sight" and a Golden Globe nomination for his adaptation of another Leonard novel, "Get Shorty," the story notes.
Giamatti received an Oscar nomination for his 2005 supporting role in "Cinderella Man" and is an Emmy winner for his title role in the 2008 HBO production "John Adams."
