Two Unscripted Shows Buck the Downtrend on a Night of Season and Series Lows for Broadcast Nets

On a mostly down Wednesday night for the broadcast networks, two key reality shows bucked the trend, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that CBS’s "Big Brother" and Fox’s "MasterChef" were up. With a 2.3 average in viewers 18-49, "MasterChef" wound up as the top show of the night on the broadcast nets, just eclipsing "Big Brother’s" 2.2 average.

"MasterChef" was up one-tenth of a point from last week, while "Big Brother" ticked up two-tenths.

Fox, which led off prime time with a repeat installment of "MasterChef" (1.1 average in 18-49), finished as the top broadcast network for prime time overall. CBS followed "Big Brother" with two hours of drama repeats ("Criminal Minds," with a 0.9 average, and "CSI," with a 1.1).

Second-place NBC got a 2.1 average out of "America’s Got Talent" in viewers 18-49, equaling last week’s season low, while "Camp" turned in a 0.9, matching last week’s series low.

ABC’s only fresh program was the 10 p.m. airing of "The Lookout," which lost three-tenths of a point from last week in the 18-49 demo, settling for a series-low 0.7.

Fox led the way for prime time overall with a 1.7 average in adults 18-49, followed by NBC (1.4 average), CBS (1.4), Univision (1.4) and ABC (0.8). NBC pushed its way to the top in total viewers, averaging 6.2 million to lead CBS (5.5 million), Fox (4.2 million), Univision (3.5 million) and ABC (3.1 million).
