The longest-running late-night host in television history is marking a milestone this week, and to celebrate the occasion he’s bringing in someone who has been around for a number of his milestones. The host is David Letterman, who’s calling on his pal Bill Murray to help him mark 20 years on CBS.

Murray, who kicked things off when CBS’s "Late Show with David Letterman" bowed Aug. 30, 1993, returns Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, to help Letterman mark 20 years on the network.

Murray also was a part of Letterman’s "Late Night" when it premiered on NBC back in 1982. Letterman’s overall record run in late-night stands at 31 years and counting.

CBS reports that Letterman’s run on the Tiffany Network has included 3,897 episodes (as of the Aug. 29 installment), along with four prime-time specials. The show has reportedly won nine Emmy Awards, including six as outstanding variety, music or comedy program. It has been nominated for a total of 73 Emmys, CBS reports.

Murray will be making his 26th appearance on the CBS chat show.
