CBS had pretty much given up on getting an interview with Syrian President Bashar Assad because Assad refused to appear on “60 Minutes,” due to concerns about how the interview would be edited, reports TVNewsCheck.com.

“But CBS News Chairman Jeff Fager said Tuesday that a suggestion from ‘CBS This Morning’ co-anchor Charlie Rose that the Assad interview air on Rose’s eponymous show on PBS made it happen,” the story says.

Said Fager: "It was great that we figured out a way around it."

An estimated 1.2 million people in the U.S. watched the interview Monday, the story notes.
