Fans of the superhero Batman are up in arms about overtures by pop star Justin Bieber, who has suggested he might play Robin to Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight in "Batman vs. Superman," reports the New York Post.

While a few supporters wished Bieber well, the sentiment was overwhelmingly negative on Twitter, the story reports.

"The only things that can defeat Superman are kryptonite, magic, and putting Ben Affleck and Justin Bieber in his movie," one person wrote on Twitter. Another pleaded, "God, please let it be a hoax!"

The furor started when Bieber posted an Instagram photo of what looked like a copy of the movie’s screenplay and added the hashtag "#Robin" next to it.

The superhero movie is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2015.
