‘Morning Joe’ Has a New Caffeine Fix

The longtime partnership between MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" and a popular coffee brand is over. MSNBC confirmed that Starbucks’ sponsorship of the morning news staple ended several weeks ago, BuzzFeed reports.

The "brewed by Starbucks" tagline that had been featured on the show since 2009 stopped appearing at the end of August. Then an orange straw — a sign of a Dunkin’ Donuts drink — appeared in host Joe Scarborough’s iced drink, while an actual Dunkin’ Donuts coffee cup appeared next to host Mika Brzezinski, the story notes.

"MSNBC and Starbucks had a successful partnership for more than four years and we’re looking forward to working on new projects together in the future," a network representative said.

Mediaite notes that there was no indication of what caused Starbucks to end its sponsorship. "The partnership had been renewed in March of 2011, and included not just on-air endorsements, but Scarborough’s own blend of coffee, ‘Gold Coast,’" the Mediaite report adds.
