Something to Talk About: Genre Heats Up as Summer Winds Down

As summer winds down, the daytime talk genre appears to be heating up, based on just-released national syndication rankings for the week ending Sept. 8.

Two shows were tied at the top of the rankings for household ratings: "Live with Kelly & Michael (2.5, up 9% from the week before), and "Dr. Phil" (2.5, up 4%). "Dr. Phil" hadn’t started its new season yet, with the season premiere set for Sept. 9.

"Dr. Oz" (1.9, up 6%), in repeats all week, tied for third with "Maury" (1.9, down 5%). Also in repeats, "Katie" (1.6, up 7%) had its best numbers in four weeks, tying "Ellen" (1.6, down 6%), which had its lowest ratings in a year.

"The Doctors" had its best numbers since the week of July 29 (1.2, up 9%).
