Tom Hanks is working on a 10-part documentary series for CNN. The Los Angeles Times reports that the ambitious project, announced as the 50th anniversary of the JFK assassination approaches, will focus on the 1960s.

Called "The Sixties," the project will follow the events of the decade and the cultural transformation during those years, with subject matter including the Beatles, protests and drugs. "In other words, all the usual 1960s suspects," the story notes.

Hanks is co-producing with his partner Gary Goetzman, as well as CNN and Mark Herzog, the executive producer of History’s "Gettysburg" movie, the piece adds.

CNN will air the first episode in November, with that installment focusing on JFK’s assassination. The rest of the series will air starting in April 2014.
