Ellen DeGeneres has sold a 1930s period piece to the CW, with the project focusing on a young Midwestern woman who moves to Los Angeles to track down her sister’s killer, reports Deadline.com.

The project, called “Players,” is from Warner Bros. TV and DeGeneres’ studio-based A Very Good Production. DeGeneres, Danny Cannon and Jeff Kleeman will executive produce, with Cannon set to direct. Cannon is the director and executive producer of the CW’s “The Tomorrow People.”

The young woman’s sister was killed by a predatory studio chief, but as she seeks revenge, she ends up getting caught up in the Hollywood scene.

It’s the latest period drama for the CW, which currently is airing “Reign,” about a young Mary, Queen of Scots, and has bought a 1960s surf project for this development season.
