Wallace is also known for her role as Carol Kester, the receptionist on "The Bob Newhart Show," on which she appeared in almost every episode, the piece adds. The program ran from 1972-1978 on CBS.

On Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, the day after Wallace died, "The Simpsons" producers announced that Krabappel’s character would be retired from the show. The schoolteacher had recently fallen in love with Ned Flanders, the neighbor of the Simpson family.

Wallace, whose death was confirmed by "Simpsons" producer Al Jean, had been a survivor of breast cancer since 1985, the story notes. She had spoken about the topic and appeared on a 1998 cover of People magazine.

"Wallace’s close friend Cathryn Michon, who co-wrote and directed the actress’ final movie, the upcoming ‘Muffin Top,’ …said that Wallace passed away of complications from other illnesses and was breast cancer free at the time of her death," according to Deadline.com.
