MSNBC announced today that Ronan Farrow will host a new one-hour program on the cable channel, with the show set to premiere in early 2014.

MSNBC President Phil Griffin made the announcement.

Said Griffin: “Ronan has established himself as a provocative, independent journalist capable of challenging people’s assumptions and empowering audiences. His show will be a game changer for MSNBC, representing a fresh approach to how we deliver news.”

The show has been the subject of development talks for several months. As we reported last week, Farrow has been closing in on a job at the cable channel, but it was previously thought that it might take longer for him to get his own show.

Farrow was in the news recently when his mother, actress Mia Farrow, revealed that Ronan’s father might be Frank Sinatra — not Woody Allen, as was widely believed.

Ronan Farrow, 25, said of his upcoming show: "This is a new generation of news show for a new, more engaged generation of viewers. It’s a show about why the news matters to you — and what you can do to be a part of the story. I’m excited to shake up people’s expectations for cable news. And to get a ton of Twitter followers.”

MSNBC noted in a press release: "Prior to joining MSNBC, Farrow was a foreign policy official in the first Obama administration. He founded the State Department’s Office of Global Youth Issues and reported to the Secretary of State as the United States’ first Special Adviser for Global Youth during the Arab Spring revolutions. He also served for two years as a U.S. diplomat focused on the conflict in Afghanistan and Pakistan."
