The son of one of today’s top movie stars is getting his acting career off the ground, and he just landed his first big job. John David Washington, the son of two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington, signed on for the HBO pilot "Ballers," reports Deadline.com.

The half-hour dramedy stars Dwayne Johnson, with Washington taking on a regular role as Ricky, a spiritual and competitive pro athlete, the story says. The show focuses on several athletes in Miami.

Washington, who played football at Morehouse College and also with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams, has only one acting credit to his name, a small role in his father’s 1992 film "Malcolm X," the piece notes.

Denzel Washington won Oscars for his lead role in "Training Day" (2001) and a supporting role in "Glory" (1989).
