Whoa! Report Says Marvel Is Putting Together a Package of Four Drama Series and a Miniseries

Wow! Here’s a terrific exclusive by our friend Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com: "The notorious secrecy that surrounds Marvel‘s projects has been heightened to the nth degree for this one."

And here’s Andreeva’s scoop: "I hear that Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as potential candidates. Feelers had been sent out, and I hear there’s already interest from digital platforms and traditional cable networks in the package, which I hear is in very early stages with very little talent attached. Reps for Marvel refused any comment."

Marvel, owned by Disney, is on quite a roll. "The Avengers" was the highest-grossing movie of 2012, and currently holds the all-time box-office record for weekend gross. And "The Avengers" is currenlty being featured on Amazon’s streaming video service.

Furthermore, "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is a hit on ABC and has been given a full-season order.

Andreeva concludes her scoop by writing: "Committing to 60 episodes off the bat is a big undertaking for a network/digital service but would make sense for outlets new to scripted programming that are looking to quickly build up a slate and want to capitalize on the Marvel brand."

  1. Great scoop by Nellie. However, ABC’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not a hit. The program’s viewership has dropped substantially after the first episode, and episode three was third place in the time period. Tonight’s result will show if the program continues its free fall and ABC’s full-season renewal was a mistake, or the ship gets righted.
