Amazon will release its first two original series later this month, but unlike Netflix, it won’t place all the episodes online at once, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

"Alpha House," created by Pulitzer Prize winner Gary Trudeau and starring John Goodman, will start streaming Nov. 15. "Betas," about a group of tech entrepreneurs who work on a social-media service, will start Nov. 22.

But only three episodes will be released at first, the company said.

"We will release three episodes upfront for all customers so they can try out the shows and get to know the characters. Then we will release new episodes via Prime Instant Video week by week so that customers can chat about the shows and build up anticipation," Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, said. "We’re constantly experimenting and trying new things — and we’re eager to hear customers’ feedback on this model.”

The first three episodes will be free, but the remainder will be available only through Amazon Prime subscriptions, which cost $79 per year.
