CBS’s “Hawaii Five-0” is promoting an actor to series regular after he has appeared on the drama series in a guest role. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the show is giving Chi McBride’s character a bump.

McBride portrays Capt. Lou Grover, a character who was introduced in September’s fourth-season premiere. McBride started out as a guest star, portraying a SWAT team leader who has relocated to Oahu from Chicago.

"After his first guest spot, we knew we had something special here with Chi playing Captain Lou Grover," exec producer Peter Lenkov said.

The promotion comes after McBride was scheduled to voice a role on the Fox animated project “Murder Police,” but that show was canceled before its premiere, the piece adds.
