On a night when NBC filled its three hours of prime time with programming built around a single show, that show sank to a season low — and NBC still won Monday night handily, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.
With NBC airing three hours of "The Voice" programming — a one-hour recap show followed by the regular two-hour Monday edition — TVbytheNumbers.com reports that the regular show fell to a 3.4 average rating in 18-49, losing four-tenths of a point from the previous week and settling for a season low. For its part, the recap delivered a 2.2.
That left NBC with a 3.0 average for prime time in viewers 18-49, still well ahead of its broadcast rivals. NBC did slip to second place behind ABC in total viewers.
ABC and Fox tied for second place in adults 18-49, but the report notes that ABC’s numbers may be inflated by "Monday Night Football" coverage on ABC affiliates in Boston and Charlotte, with the network’s preliminary figures subject to more than the usual adjustments.
ABC’s two-hour "Dancing with the Stars" came in with a 2.3 average in the 18-49 demo, way up from last week’s series-low 1.7. "Castle" also had a 2.3, up from a 2.0 a week ago.
Fox’s new drama "Almost Human" made its time slot debut at 8 p.m. and fell to a 2.2 average in 18-49 after delivering a 3.1 for Sunday’s premiere. "Sleepy Hollow" slipped one-tenth from last week to a 2.5.
Most of CBS’s lineup was even with a week ago. "How I Met Your Mother" finished with a competitive 3.1 average in the 18-49 demo, matching its number from last week, while "2 Broke Girls" equaled last week’s 2.7, "Mike & Molly" again came in with a 2.3 — equaling its series low — and "Mom" matched last week’s 1.9, also a series low.
CBS’s "Hostages" fell one-tenth in 18-49 to a series-low 1.0 average.
For prime time overall, NBC’s 3.0 average led the way in the 18-49 demo, followed by ABC and Fox (2.3 averages), CBS (2.0) and Univision (1.2). ABC was on top in total viewers with 13.7 million, ahead of NBC (9.5 million), Fox (6.8 million), CBS (6.6 million) and Univision (3.4 million).
