Al-Jazeera America has hired award-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger to direct and executive produce a series on the criminal justice system, reports TheWrap.com.

The series will look at issues including false confessions and how minors are treated in the system, the story reports. “The System” will debut March 16 with an episode about flawed forensic evidence.

Berlinger has focused on criminal justice issues before, having directed “Paradise Lost,” a film trilogy about the West Memphis Three, teenagers who were convicted of murder but freed 18 years later after new evidence won their release, the story notes.

Berlinger has been nominated for an Oscar and is a two-time Emmy winner.

  1. OK, so they are doing a series about how terrible and flawed and unfair the American justice system is. Any bets on whether they will ever do even one segment on their channel about anything good about our system? As compared to the system in, say, Saudi Arabia or Syriah?
