A veteran television writer and producer who was a three-time Primetime Emmy nominee and won an Emmy in 1981 has died. Variety reports that Eric Bercovici, who shared the Emmy for outstanding limited series for the 1980 NBC miniseries “Shogun” with author James Clavell, died Sunday at his Honolulu home. He was 80.

With Clavell, Bercovici also wrote the 1988 NBC miniseries “Noble House.” Bercovici also wrote and produced the 1977 ABC miniseries “Washington: Behind Closed Doors,’ which earned him an Emmy nomination.

“He supported me and fought all the battles behind the scenes while I was making the film," said Jerry London, the director of “Shogun,” after learning of Bercovici’s death.

He also worked on films, including writing the 1968 movie “Hell in the Pacific,” about an American and Japanese soldier trapped on the same island during World War II, the story notes.
