Going up against NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia, Fox’s "American Idol" saw its ratings plunge Thursday night, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo.

TVbytheNumbers.com reports that "Idol" managed only a 2.4 average rating in viewers 18-49 — an all-time low for the show, which lost 20% of its audience from a week ago. Leading out from "Idol," Fox’s "Rake" settled for a 1.0, off 9% from last week.

NBC continued to rack up big numbers for the Olympics, even though its 4.9 average in 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. was down 17% from the comparable night of the Vancouver Olympics four years ago.

CBS went with a lineup of all repeats, while ABC put up the two-hour finale of "The Taste," which equaled its number from last week in the 18-49 demo with a 0.9 average.

For prime time overall, NBC was again the runaway winner in adults 18-49, averaging a 4.9 rating to lead Univision and Fox (both with 1.7 averages), CBS (1.6) and ABC (0.8). NBC chalked up 19.9 million total viewers to distance itself from CBS (6.63 million), Fox (6.61 million), Univision (4.3 million) and ABC (3.0 million).
