Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Haunting Confession to a Stranger Two Weeks Ago

The late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman made a seemingly bizarre admission to a stranger two weeks ago at the Sundance Film Festival, telling him, “I’m a heroin addict,” reports the New York Post’s Page Six.

Magazine publisher John Arundel told the Post he didn’t immediately recognize the actor, and asked him what he did for a living.

“He said, ‘I’m a heroin addict,’” Arundel said. He said Hoffman then took off his “sloppy hat” and the publisher recognized him, saying, “Oh, you’re Philip Seymour Hoffman.”

The actor replied, “Bingo!” and then added, “I just got out of rehab.”

Hoffman’s addiction issues were so bad that his partner of 14 years, costume designer Mimi O’Donnell, had recently asked him to move out of their Jane Street apartment in New York City’s Greenwich Village, the story says.

As previously reported, about 70 baggies of heroin were found in Hoffman’s apartment. Hoffman, 46, was found dead Sunday, with what officials said was a syringe in his arm.
