The death of TV comic-actor pioneer Sid Caesar reminds us that without Caesar there most likely would never have been a "Dick Van Dyke Show."

"The Dick Van Dyke Show" starred Van Dyke as a TV show writer with a tyranical boss, Alan Brady. Brady was played by Carl Reiner, who created the series. Reiner was a onetime TV writer for Sid Caesar and "Your Show of Shows" that starred Caesar.

Here’s a video on an interview Reiner once gave for the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences at EmmyLegends.org about how he came to create and write the show "Head of the Family," which eventually became "The Dick Van Dyke Show."
