Can a One-Hit Wonder From the ’90s Carry a Whole Series? VH1 Is Betting on It

VH1 has ordered a series centered around a 1990s one-hit wonder. TheWrap.com reports that the show marks a return to public life for Gerardo Mejia — who went by simply "Gerardo" when he had his big 1990 hit "Rico Suave."

The cable channel gave a 10-episode order to the half-hour reality show, the report notes. The series has the working title “Suave Says,” and is set to debut later this year.

After his hit and some minor follow-ups ran their course in the early 1990s, Mejia “apparently went on to become a music executive, marry a beauty queen and build a family," the story reports. "The series will follow the music exec, who helped usher Enrique Iglesias and others’ careers, as he and wife Kathy run their family."

“I can’t wait for VH1’s audience to meet my wild family,” said Mejia. “We’re like Ricky and Lucy but with a handful of crazy kids trying to run my casa.”

In case you’ve forgotten — and on the odd chance that you would like your memory jogged — here’s the video of "Rico Suave":
