After picking up an Academy Award Sunday night, one of the biggest stars of the movies’ biggest night made some TV news.

Variety reports that Matthew McConaughey, who won an Oscar for his lead performance in “Dallas Buyers Club," said during a backstage interview session at the awards ceremony that he won’t be returning to HBO’s “True Detective."

“No, I won’t be back for season two. Season one was finite,” the actor said when asked about a potential return.

On the critically acclaimed HBO series, McConaughey plays Detective Rust Cohle, who works with Detective Martin Hart, played by Woody Harrelson, to track down a murderer.

  1. Quite the incendiary headline, considering the actual status of his part in the show.

  2. Totally agree. This is ridiculous. He wasn’t even supposed to return.
