Report: NBC Ready to Tweak ‘Meet the Press’ After the Show Falls to Third Place

NBC News President Deborah Turness is meeting with “Meet the Press” host David Gregory this week about changes to the show’s format, reports Politico’s Dylan Byers.

The meeting, which will take place today, Thursday, is part of Turness’ goal to pump up viewership for the show after it suffered ratings losses — coming in third behind “This Week” on ABC and “Face the Nation” on CBS last quarter, the story notes.

An NBC spokeswoman said Turness’ visit was “business as usual.”

“Sources said that improvements to ‘Meet the Press’ will be one of Turness’s chief concerns on her two-day visit. The show’s fourth-quarter ratings marked the lowest total viewers ‘Meet’ has had in a fourth quarter since 1991. Its ratings in the coveted 25-to-54 demo were the lowest in the show’s history,” the story notes.

Gregory became the host of the show in 2008.
