Why NBC Pulled Out of Comedy Project

NBC is pulling the plug on its plans for an upcoming comedy. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that casting concerns are behind the network’s decision not to go forward with “Fifth Wheel."

“With the number of original scripted series on cable and digital platforms exploding, there were major concerns going into this broadcasting season that the depleted talent pool would put extra strain on casting, leading to a number of pilots folding over problems finding the right actors,” Andreeva writes.

“Fifth Wheel” is the first pilot to get shelved this season because of casting issues, she notes.

The project won’t be a noticeable loss for NBC since it had ordered 14 comedy pilots, the most of any network, according to the report. “Fifth Wheel” was an ensemble comedy about a young woman whose last single friend gets engaged.
