A Tupelo, Miss., television station was evacuated during a live broadcast as a tornado approached the city, reports KLTV.com.

WTVA-TV chief meteorologist Matt Laubhan was giving a report on major storms approaching the city, when the evacuation was broadcast to station viewers, the story says. Weather spotters had reported a tornado heading toward the city at 50 miles per hour.

The Weather Channel on Monday said a shopping mall and nearby buildings suffered “major damage” from the storm. The station’s staff was evacuated to its basement, the story notes.
