A TV, feature film and stage actor who was known for his long run as a television villain has died. ABC News reports that Matthew Cowles, who played the villainous Billy Clyde Tuggle on ABC’s “All My Children,” died May 22 at 69.

Cowles is survived by his wife of 30 years, actress Christine Baranski of “The Good Wife,” and their two daughters. The story doesn’t provide a cause of death.

Cowles received two Daytime Emmy nominations for his role on “All My Children,” appearing on the show from 1977 until 1990, when his character set off what was believed to be a fatal explosion. His character reappeared in 2013, however.

His manager, Tsu Tsu Stanton, confirmed the actor's death on Twitter, writing: "#Matthew Cowles passed away on 5/22. I had the pleasure of being his manager. He was a very gifted and kind man who loved life and everyone."

Cowles' many film credits included "The Money Pit," "Slap Shot" and "Shutter Island."
