“American Idol” has been given a 14th season by Fox, which Deadline.com notes was expected despite the singing competition's ratings declines.

The show announced auditions in 15 cities for the upcoming season, the story notes. It adds, “For the past three years, ‘American Idol’ had alternated with ‘The X Factor’ on the midseason and fall schedule. With ‘The X Factor’ canceled, Fox might use another unscripted series, like new social experiment ‘Utopia,’ in the fall.”
