The Starz historical fantasy “Da Vinci’s Demons” has received a renewal, but changes are being made behind the scenes as the series will have a new showrunner, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.
The renewal makes the show the first original drama series from Starz to make it to a third season since “Spartacus,” the piece notes.
Starz has hired Emmy-winning television veteran John Shiban, who has worked as a writer and producer on shows including AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and Fox’s “The X Files,” the story adds. Creator David S. Goyer is stepping down as showrunner, but will continue as an executive producer with Shiban taking over as showrunner.
“I’ve been a fan of John’s work for some time and I’m excited to add his voice to the mix,” Goyer said in a statement.
The show, which stars Tom Riley as da Vinci, has been drawing about 3.7 million viewers when adding in DVR playback.
