CNN cut positions Thursday as part of a reorganization of its digital and television units. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network laid off about 50 employees, mostly in New York.

Positions were also cut in Atlanta, Los Angeles and Washington, the story adds. CNN Digital and CNN Money lost 28 positions, although the network plans to add 22 new cross-platform jobs in the CNN Money unit, which will be filled by current employees, the report notes.

“The several dozen employees whose positions were cut or reassigned will be able to apply for other roles and the total number of staff at the network will remain roughly the same, [a] network insider said. Staff from the news-gathering division and libraries were also affected,” the story reports.

The CNN Money website is planning to separate Fortune magazine on June 1, given the planned Time Inc. spinoff from Time Warner. Both Money and Fortune currently run from the same CNN Money website.
