Actor LeVar Burton, known for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and "Roots," fully funded a Kickstarter campaign to create a new version of the long-running children’s literacy show “Reading Rainbow” within 24 hours, raising $1 million, reports TheWrap.com.

The campaign aims to create a new version of the show for the Web, and will also offer a “classroom version” of the program for teachers. Burton pledged rewards to backers that included a dinner with the actor in Los Angeles, as well as the opportunity to wear the visor used by his character on “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

“Reading Rainbow” was on-air from 1983 until 2006, and then aired in reruns through 2009.
