An actor from the HBO drama series "Boardwalk Empire" has landed the lead in a new Netflix series. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Netflix’s superhero drama “Daredevil” cast Charlie Cox in the role.

Cox will play Matt Murdock, a blind attorney who fights crime at night. Cox is the first actor to be cast in the Marvel Entertainment property, which recently tapped “Spartacus” creator Steven S. DeKnight as its showrunner.

“For his part, Cox has been a sought-after actor for the past two pilot seasons. He most recently was attached to topline CBS's untitled Wall Street drama from exec producer John Cusack,” the story reports. “That pilot did not move forward at the network. Last year, he starred on CBS's drama pilot ‘The Ordained,’ which also did not move forward. That would have served as his TV follow-up to HBO's ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ where he recurred as Owen for two seasons.”
