The host of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” is leaving the syndicated quiz show after only one season, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.
Cedric the Entertainer, who has hosted the show since September 2013, said he's leaving because of the show’s decision to move production to Connecticut, which he said doesn't fit his schedule. Cedric took over as host after Meredith Vieira ended her 11-season run on the syndicated version of the show.
“With the many television and film projects that I have going on which shoot and promote in various parts of the country, a production-base in Connecticut would make it quite difficult to maneuver the many moving parts on my plate,” he said in a statement. “So, after much thought and some serious conversations with senior executives at the studio, I decided to let Disney-ABC know that, unfortunately, I’m not able to continue on as host.”
The show already has a replacement in mind, Deadline.com reports. The job is set to go to “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-star Terry Crews, who reportedly has a deal to host the show, although it hasn’t yet been finalized. Deadline adds that cost-cutting may have played a role in the host change.
