Fox claimed a narrow win over NBC for prime time overall Monday night, based on Nielsen overnights for the key 18-49 demo, while NBC's "American Ninja Warrior" was the top program on broadcast prime.
TVbytheNumbers.com reports that Fox's "24: Live Another Day" and "MasterChef" both improved on their numbers from a week ago to fuel the network's win. "MasterChef" was up two-tenths of a point in 18-49 with a 1.7 average, while "24" surged three-tenths to a 1.8.
NBC was paced by its two-hour "American Ninja Warrior," which finished as the top broadcast show of the night with a 1.9 average in the 18-49 demo, up three-tenths from a week ago. The report notes that NBC was pre-empted in Cleveland for baseball coverage, meaning that its results may be subject to more than the usual adjustments.
Third-place ABC's two-hour "The Bachelorette" rose two-tenths from last week to a 1.7 in the 18-49 demo, while "Mistresses" had a 1.2 for its season premiere, matching its first-season debut.
CBS aired mostly repeats, with its only fresh program, "48 Hours," rising three-tenths from a week ago to a 1.2 average in viewers 18-49 as the Tiffany Network finished in a tie with Univision for fourth place among the broadcast nets.
For prime time overall, Fox's 1.8 average in 18-49 was good enough to win the night, topping NBC (1.7 average), ABC (1.5) and CBS and Univision (both 1.1). ABC came out on top in total viewers with 5.83 million, ahead of Fox (5.66 million), CBS (5.47 million), NBC (4.93 million) and Univision (2.58 million).
