After "Saturday Night Live" alum Tracy Morgan was seriously injured in a six-car crash early Saturday, as previously reported, one option that was considered for his treatment was amputation of his leg, FoxNews.com reports, citing a story by MediaTakeout.

"MediaTakeout said a nurse at the hospital treating Morgan told the website that amputation of Morgan's severely injured leg had been an option, but that Morgan was against it, opting instead for additional surgeries," FoxNews.com reports. "Morgan is recovering but is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks for injuries suffered in the chain-reaction crash on the New Jersey Turnpike that left two others critically injured and one dead."

Killed in the crash was comedian James "Jimmy Mack" McNair, 62, who has been described as a mentor and friend to Morgan, as we reported earlier.

Meanwhile, details of the crash are emerging, including comments from Tyrone Gale, who was driving the limo bus.

"The driver of Morgan's limousine bus said he heard the comedian screaming out for help after his vehicle rolled several times down a New Jersey highway after being rammed by a semi trailer whose driver had not slept for more than 24 hours," FoxNews.com reports.

Gale is quoted saying: "I climbed around and heard Tracy screaming for help. I climbed up on the body of the limo bus … but I couldn't reach them."

TMZ published a video shot at the crash scene by an onlooker moments after the fatal collision, which can be seen below.

"The video shows clear panic, as other motorists stop, get out of their cars and try to figure out how to help," TMZ reports. "They pull one person out of the limo but others are still inside. The man who shot the video tells us … the person pulled from the limo is Tracy Morgan — he laid on the concrete waiting for paramedics."

Morgan, 45, a veteran of both "Saturday Night Live" and "30 Rock," reportedly remained in critical condition early today, after his rep, Lewis Kay, reported that the comedian was "more responsive" Sunday following surgery on his broken leg.

"Kay said Morgan also suffered a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs and is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks. He said Morgan's family is 'tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans,'" the FoxNews.com article notes.

The FoxNews report adds: "Also critically injured were Morgan's assistant, Jeffrey Millea, 36, of Shelton, Connecticut, and comedian Ardie Fuqua Jr., 43, of Jersey City. They remained in critical condition Sunday evening, said Zenaida Mendez, a spokeswoman for Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick. Another passenger, comic Harris Stanton, was treated and released."

Kevin Roper, 35, who was reportedly driving the Walmart truck that hit the limo bus, has been charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Authorities said Roper had not slept for more than 24 hours at the time of the wreck, and reportedly swerved at the last minute after failing to slow for traffic ahead.

"Roper, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to state police. He was released on $50,000 bail Saturday night and has been placed on administrative leave, Walmart spokesman David Tovar said Sunday," the FoxNews story reports, adding: "Walmart President Bill Simon said in a statement that the company 'will take full responsibility' if authorities determine its truck caused the accident."
