A new Disney Channel series had a big turnout for its premiere. The Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker reports that the cable channel's "Girl Meets World," a sequel to the popular ABC series "Boy Meets World,"  drew an audience of 5.2 million total viewers for Friday's premiere.

"The sitcom, which finds Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) of 'Boy Meets World' married and the parents of a tween daughter (Rowan Blanchard), is the No. 1 series launch of 2014 among the major youth demographics," the story reports.

The program was preceded by the original Disney Channel movie "Zapped," which had an even larger turnout with 5.7 million total viewers, and was the No. 1 cable program of the year in kids 2-11, kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14.
