A new television production and distribution venture is being launched by worldwide film company IM Global, which has hired former Syfy President of Original Content Mark Stern to oversee the initiative, Deadline.com reports.

IM Global, which is part of Indian conglomerate Reliance ADA, has been expanding and had been studying when to enter the TV business, the piece notes.

“In just seven years we’ve established ourselves as one of the most prolific feature film players outside of the major studios in Hollywood, and in partnership with Mark, I look forward to us now becoming a recognized force in the fast-evolving global television arena,” founder Stuart Ford said.

Stern left Syfy in November to move into producing, and hit it off with Ford, the story says. The plan to create IM Global TV was created over the past three to four months.

The new venture will focus on a straight-to-series model. “But unlike other independent companies that employ that model, such as MRC and Gaumont International Television, IM Global TV will fully own its shows whenever possible but also is open to teaming up with other companies and U.S. studios for co-productions if a project calls for that creatively,” the story reports.

Stern told Deadline he’s partial to genre, science fiction and supernatural series.
