Here’s Something New: How About a Light Show in Your Living Room to Go Along With Your ‘Sharknado’ Screening?

It may sound too good to be true, but thanks to technology — and an innovative arrangement between Syfy and lighting company Philips — viewers can get a light show in their own living room, synced up to screenings of “Sharknado” and “Sharknado 2.”

The two companies today announced what they’re calling “the first-ever television content-focused immersive lighting experience,” which pairs the Syfy Sync second screen app and the Philips Hue connected lighting system for the home.

“When combined, the app will detect audio cues from the ‘Sharknado’ movies and translate them to the Web-enabled Hue system,” the companies explain in a press release announcing the initiative. “Fans will of then be enveloped in the onscreen action through ambient lighting effects as the bulbs change colors to reflect the increasingly stormy weather conditions, chainsaw-induced shark carnage and more throughout the two movies.”
