The season premiere of a buzzworthy cable drama series rode into record ratings territory Tuesday night. Deadline.com reports that FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” drew 6.2 million total viewers and 4.1 million viewers in the key demo of adults 18-49 for its 10 p.m. telecast, based on Nielsen figures.
The seventh-season premiere clocked in at 1 hour, 47 minutes, the report notes, and came in as the show’s most-watched episode, as well as its highest-rated in the demo by “a nice margin.” The premiere was up 5% in total viewers from the season six premiere, which was the show’s previous record holder with 5.87 million total viewers and 3.94 million in 18-49, according to the report.
The story adds: “As good as the Season 7 opener did, it is going to have to burn some serious rubber to beat the results of the last season. With digital figures taken into account on this very DVR friendly show, ‘SOA’ S6 grabbed 7.48 million viewers on average with 5.11 million in the 18-49 demo. That made ‘SOA’ S6 the most-watched season of an FX original series in the cable network’s history both in total viewers and the demo.”
