Cult Superhero Parody to Be Revived

A cult superhero parody series that was a critical favorite is being brought back for a reboot. TheWrap.com reports that “The Tick,” which starred actor Patrick Warburton as the superhero of the title, is coming back to life thanks to Amazon.

The original show aired for just nine episodes in 2001, but drew “near universal critical acclaim,” the story notes. The show is based on a comic book of the same title, while an animated version ran for three seasons in the mid-1990s.

“Warburton worked out a deal with Sony Television, who have held the rights since the show’s 2001 cancellation, to bring back the beloved character as an Amazon pilot,” TheWrap reports.

Amazon, which is currently streaming its new crop of pilots, is tapping a new way of testing pilots by asking viewers to watch and vote on them after they are produced. Based on customer responses, Amazon decides which shows will move forward and which won’t.
