HBO’s acclaimed Prohibition drama series “Boardwalk Empire” ended its run Sunday night after five seasons, and Deadline.com reports that the show pulled in an estimated 2.3 million viewers — up 7% from the turnout of 2.18 million for the season four finale a year ago.

Adding in encore telecasts last night, the total climbed to 3 million, its best result of the season. The show has been averaging 6.6 million viewers this season when DVR, HBO Go and other platformas are included.

“As it has all season, ‘Boardwalk Empire’ faced strong competition last night from Sunday Night Football on NBC, which saw the New Orleans Saints soundly beat the Green Bay Packers 44-23,” the report notes.
