“AMC Networks has turned “The Walking Dead” into a bullhorn for airing its grievance with DirecTV,” writes Variety’s managing editor for television, Cynthia Littleton.

The story reports: “The cabler sounded the alarm during Sunday’s episode that its carriage agreement with the satcaster is due to expire at year’s end — before the zombie drama’s fifth season closer airs next year.”

The article adds that a “spot did not mention DirecTV by name but it urged concerned viewers to call the 855-KEEPAMC hotline or visit the KeepAMC.com website. Later in the episode a crawl popped up on screen warning “You are at risk of losing AMC and ‘The Walking Dead’ and repeating the Keep AMC contact info.”

The story notes that “Reps for DirecTV could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.”

  1. No problem. I’ll just pirate it off of a torrent site….rrrrrr

  2. I enjoy watch the movies on AMC and I hope that you will keep in on Direct TV

  3. Good for DirecTV if they are going to reduce my monthly charges based on what they are saving. I can list another 30 networks they could cut in order to reduce my bill. It is time for a la carte. Then AMC will get the viewers that want to watch their network and those of us who don’t, won’t have to pay for something we don’t want.
