Another Low-Water Mark for CNN: Lowest Viewership in at Least 23 Years

Onetime cable news leader CNN continues to endure a challenging run of soft ratings. The channel’s 9 p.m. time period on Monday night averaged just 181,000 total viewers, CNN’s lowest number in the metric since at least Oct. 1, 1991 — as far back as Nielsen electronic records extend, TVNewser reports.

Monday’s 9 p.m. time period was occupied by the second live hour of “AC360,” hosted by Anderson Cooper. The time period was also the lowest-rated hour for the network’s entire day, the story adds.

“CNN’s 9 p.m. ET hour was the longtime home of Larry King and, until earlier this year, Piers Morgan. Most nights, CNN’s new non-fiction shows from Lisa Ling, Mike Rowe and John Walsh fill the time slot. But Mondays have included a second live hour of Cooper,” the piece notes.

  1. I’m surprised they haven’t been able to figure out why they’re losing viewers. They used to have good ratings and now they don’t. Perhaps if they were to GO BACK TO WHAT WORKED and get rid of toxic crap like Nancy Grace, that would help a lot.

  2. Hire Howard Stern to do a regular one-hour interview show. It would be huge in the ratings and would bring an entirely new audience to CNN. It doesn’t have to be live. He can record it after he is finished with his show.

  3. Hire Howard Stern to do a one hour interview show. He could record it after his show every day. It would get great ratings and he would bring a whole new audience to CNN.
