CBS to Pull Plug on Drama Series After One Final Season; Network Announces a Number of Programming Moves, Rolls Out Updated Schedule

CBS today announced plans to wrap a drama series that has been a mainstay of the network’s prime-time lineup. The network unveiled plans for a seventh and final season of “The Mentalist.”

The 13-episode final season will bow Sunday, Nov. 30 (at 9:30 p.m. ET, 9 p.m. PT), before moving to its regular Wednesday 8 p.m. time slot Jan. 7.

A special two-hour series finale is set for Wednesday, Feb. 18 (8-10 p.m.).

CBS also revealed plans for three special Sunday broadcasts of “Undercover Boss”: Dec. 14 (8 p.m. ET/PT), Dec. 21 (8:30 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. PT) and Dec. 28 (8:30 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. PT). The program will move to its regular spot on Friday, Jan. 2, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Other programming notes contained in today’s release by CBS include:

• The Ultimate Sole “Survivor” Will Be Revealed Wednesday, Dec. 17.

• The Winners of “The Amazing Race” Cross the Finish Line Friday, Dec. 19.

• “Madam Secretary” and “The Good Wife” Return Sunday, Jan. 4.

• 30th “Anniversary” (30th Edition) of “Survivor” and 26th Edition of “The Amazing Race” Will Launch With Special 90-Minute Premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 25

As one of the few north american Los Angeles mentalists still doing private consultation work for individuals in the Hollywood industries, I can attest to the magnificence of this classic series which will endure for generations in its advanced portrayal of investigative police and mentalists just like MASH has been a gemstone also from the Tiffany network.

  3. 30th anniversary of “Survivor?” That thing started in 1994? Can’t be. “30th Edition,” maybe.

    • 1984. So much for math skills. And there’s definitely no way it started in 1984. I used a calculator this time.

  4. Michael – Survivor premiered in the summer of 2000. They air two different editions per year, hence the 30th edition will start airing in Feb 2015. Calling it an ‘anniversary’ edition seems like a stretch though.
