Why Kathy Griffin Now Appears Unlikely to Replace Joan Rivers on ‘Fashion Police’ — and the Other Star Who Has Moved Onto the List

Comedian Kathy Griffin, whose name came up almost immediately after the death of Joan Rivers as a possible replacement for Rivers on E!’s “Fashion Police,” now appears unlikely to get the job.

Citing sources with knowledge of the situation, TheWrap.com reports that the idea of Griffin as host didn’t fare well in testing among focus groups, meaning she is probably no longer on the list of candidates.

The report quotes an insider at E! saying: “They did some focus group testing on Kathy Griffin. The problem viewers mentioned is she’d always be compared to Joan, but never actually as good as her.”

An E! representative denied that any focus group testing took place. Either way, a problem for Griffin is that she appears to be too close to Rivers’ comedic sensibility.

While everyone seems to agree that the field of candidates remains wide open, the show is reportedly now considering Tyra Banks for the role. An insider confirmed that the model and “America’s Next Top Model” host has been talked about as a candidate for the position.

  1. BUUUTTTT any replacement is going to be second rate to Joan.

  2. Tyra Banks? Really?
I guess if E! wants Fashion Police to be ALL ABOUT TYRA — she’d make sense then.
If Tyra joins, watch for the other 3 hosts to leave over time and Tyra to bring in her fashion cronies. In a year it’ll be a completely different show.
    Ugh.

Kathy Griffin would be a GREAT choice — she’s fearless and edgy, and would be a seamless match for the team.
    TeamGriffin!

  3. I think Caroline Rhea would be great!

  4. No way tyra banks she would ruin the show she’s to ghetto and to in to herself awful idea!!!
